A member of the Western Plains library network, the Benson Public Library is a very large and well-stocked library for a town this size. Established in 1913, it moved to a beautiful new building in 1993.
Parks and Recreation: Swimming Pool
The Benson City Aquatic Center is a deluxe water park featuring four pool areas and a playground. A wading pool with several waterfall mushrooms for the children to splash in. Older patrons will enjoy the lap pool, diving boards, and the massive 30ft high, 168ft long waterslide. A full concession is on site, and the water park is within easy walking distance of Ambush Park, the Benson Golf Club, and Dairy Queen.
The only operating cinema in Swift County, the Demare Theatre is an example of the charming, small town theatres which are becoming rare in the US. Enjoy the best popcorn in town while watching a movie on the big screen.
Swift County Historical Society
Founded in 1929, the Swift County Historical Society operates a history museum and research library in Benson, Minnesota, which is open year-round and is free to the general public. In it, one can learn more about the history of Swift County in particular, and the lives of early settlers to the region in general. A large number of artifacts are displayed, and there are a number of different decade exhibits.
Our local paper, the Monitor-News is published weekly on Wednesdays, and it serves Swift County and surrounding regions, offering a local take on current events and sports as well as classified services.
